KMNW was established in December 2002 by me, Tony
Bradley. Initially trained by the Israeli Krav Maga Federation and the
International School of Krav Maga, I have also trained with leading
representatives from the Krav Maga Association of America and the Israeli
Krav Maga Association. Since qualifying as a Instructor of Krav Maga in 2002
I have superseded my own Krav Maga training in preference for the founding
Israeli Martial Art of Kapap.
As Kapap/Krav Maga/Israeli Martial Arts become more
and more well known and more people are discovering the systems a number of
other so called "martial arts" instructors are claiming the ability and
qualifications to teach Israeli Martial Arts, namely Krav Maga and Kapap.
Beware of these false instructors! If you are unsure of your instructors
qualifications then ask to see their diplomas and evidence of ongoing
training!
I first became involved in Israeli Martial Arts a number
of years ago after being confronted by three assailants (one armed with a
bottle) in Manchester city centre one evening.
Although only a couple of minor blows were exchanged and the bottle
was thrown rather than used to strike me with, it changed my way of
thinking. Until then, I had always
believed that I had the skills to be able to defend myself and others in a
violent confrontation. However, due to the numbers involved on this
occasion, I found myself ill prepared.
Fortunately, I managed to defend myself and flee the scene with no
serious harm done.
Despite having studied karate and other traditional
martial arts for a number of years and having trained in boxing during my
time in the British armed forces, I realised that none of these disciplines
really equipped me with the techniques or mental training necessary to
defend myself adequately, particularly against multiple and possibly armed
attackers.
This prompted me to find a new discipline, something more
suited to real-life situations, something that was effective and easy to
learn but, more importantly, something that made sense.
I tried various self-defence
systems, but each failed to deliver. They
either lacked proper teaching or the effectiveness of the techniques
depended on numerous factors; for example, it might only work if the attack
came from a certain angle, or if the attacker was not significantly bigger
than you, or if there was only one attacker.
Then I heard about another system, one that was used by law enforcement
agencies such as the FBI and had been tried and tested by people all over
the world - Krav Maga. Since becoming a Krav Maga instructor I have
progressed to other Israeli martial arts such as Kapap. Kapap is the
founding Israeli Martial Art and is used and taught to and by members of the
Israeli Special Forces
