individually or in any order.
17th May 08 -
Knife On Knife
So you think you can defend hands only against a true knife attacker? Well
before you make that statement you should consider there are many
differences between how a street thug may attack us with a knife and how a
trained knife fighter will attack and despatch us. This seminar starts by
teaching us the basics of knife fighting along with the more advanced
techniques of opening up a defender and overcoming their defences. It covers
areas such as types of knives, methods of holding a knife, knife stance,
angles of attack, areas of attack, type of attack, movement (advancement,
retreat, circular), attacking techniques, defensive techniques, knife drills
and lots more.
Because of the nature of this seminar all places will be approved or
denied by myself upon receipt of the booking. This seminar is only open to
"known" students, or those people from a military, law enforcement, prison
service or similar back ground. Other martial arts instructors or people
from other backgrounds may also be able to attend providing they are able to
supply evidence of a legitimate reason for wishing to attend this seminar.
If in doubt please e-mail
me
For safety reasons, a gum shield,
groin guard and padded protective gloves such as bag or
stick/knife fighting gloves are essential. Forearm guards and foreleg protectors are also
highly
recommended. Chest guards and goggles will be supplied for you.
31st May 08 -
Firearms
When it comes to firearms the
general 6 principles of disarming are clear enough, What isn't so clear
however is what your going to do with the firearm once you have it. In this
seminar we'll teach you how to utilize and understand the weapon. Remember
edged weapons never run out of ammo but guns do. Firearms can malfunction or
jam and with proper training you can learn 1) how to apply the basic drills
of loading, unloading, clearing stoppages, striping and firing and 2) Apply
this knowledge to effectively cause a weapon to malfunction while disarming
an attacker. In this seminar we'll cover all of the above plus basic holster
drills, point to point firing and tactical movement.
Please note this seminar is
conducted using the latest Blow-Back Gas pistols. If you have your own GBB
pistol, gas, ammo and spare magazine for drills and wish to attend then
please contact me for a reduced rate of £20 and £25. This seminar will
either be held using our own indoor range at the Phoenix or Elite shooting
centre in Burnley.
21st June 08 - Stick On Stick
In this seminar we
cover everything from stick fighting to stick defence. In the first part of
the seminar the stick is used purely for defensive purposes, we look at how
the stick can be used as a blocking, restraining or leverage tool and even
how to retain the stick when someone attempts to take it from us. Then we
progress to consider the stick as a fighting tool, one on one. We consider
types of sticks (length etc), methods of holding the stick, stance, angles
of attack, areas of attack, type of attack, movement (advancement, retreat,
circular), attacking techniques, defensive techniques, drills and lots more.
For safety reasons, a gum shield,
groin guard and padded protective gloves such as bag or
stick/knife fighting gloves are essential. Forearm guards and foreleg protectors are also
highly
recommended. Chest guards and goggles will be supplied for you.
TBC - Ground Work
This seminar deals with problems
faced when an attacker has taken us to the ground or we have fallen to the
ground. The seminar starts by
covering basic defensive techniques while on the ground.
You will learn how to escape
from holds and attacks when the assailant is physically upon you, stood over
you and coming toward you.

Kapap 1
Kapap...can only really be described as the next
step up from Krav Maga. If you think that Krav Maga deals with your average
street thug and how to defend yourself against this type of threat/attack,
then Kapap deals with the attacker who has knowledge of weapon retention
and/or knife fighting. Hence the military associations. For
more information on Kapap check out these sites
http://www.avinardia.com/,
http://www.kapap.net/ .
In this seminar we look at the basics of Kapap
and see how the Military system has been
adapted for Civilian and/or Law Enforcement use. The first lesson teaches
you the techniques used to drop or take out a sentry. Your taught how to
open up an attacker, how to draw them off balance and then how to take them
down. From here we teach you methods of control via pain compliance and
pressure point techniques and how to apply disabling chokes. Later in the seminar we look
at and train the basics of knife on knife, we examine the differences
between a skilled, fast moving, dynamic combat knife specialist and a
civilian thug with a knife. Once you understand the tactics employed by the
specialist, we'll get rid of your knife and start to teach you how to defend
with just your hands. Finally and to see how all of this works we'll end the
session with a few stress games and conditioning exercises.
For safety reasons, a gum shield,
groin guard and padded protective gloves such as bag or
stick/knife fighting gloves are essential. Forearm guards and foreleg protectors are also
highly
recommended. Chest guards and goggles will be supplied for you.
TBC - Kapap 2
Kapap 2 starts in
much the same way as Kapap 1 by re-establishing the basic masking and
takedown techniques used in Kapap. For those who have attended previous
courses it will act as a welcome refresher but for those new to Kapap you'll
be learning some of the most fundamental techniques used throughout the
Kapap system. From here we'll examine some of the distraction techniques
used in Kapap and we'll see how these techniques can be used by either
individuals who wish to escape a would-be violent encounter or by special
forces operating as a snatch squad. We'll then combine these techniques with
the takedowns and teach you how to apply them in defence of street attacks
such as punches and grabs. In the second part of the seminar we examine the
stick, baton or even an umbrella as a weapon and also as a defensive object.
You'll initially be taught how to see the stick as an extension of your own
arm and as such you'll quickly learn how to apply the stick to takedown an
attacker and/or to apply a leverage. From here we'll go stick on stick and
teach you the basic principles of dynamic stick fighting which encompasses
all the aspects of Israeli Martial arts such as movement,
blocking/deflecting, counter attacking. Once we've spent some time learning
how to fight with a stick like object we'll show you some of the tools and
methods used to defend yourself against an attacker with a stick when your
only weapons are your hands and feet. Finally and to see how all of this
works we'll end the session with a few stress games and conditioning
exercises.
For safety reasons, a gum shield,
groin guard and padded protective gloves such as bag or
stick/knife fighting gloves are essential. Forearm guards and foreleg protectors are also
highly
recommended. Chest guards and goggles will be supplied for you.
Note: Because of the
way we teach Kapap the above seminars can be done in any order so there's
no need to have attended 1 or 2 if your thinking about 3. However please
remember, if your an absolute beginner you need to attend the
Basic KM course first for a grounding and a
better understanding of what we do in Israeli Martial Arts
4-Hour General Training Seminars
Please remember - the
content of these seminars are being revised constantly to incorporate the
latest techniques and enhancements and as such these 2008 seminars will
differ drastically from any previous seminars.
All
students should wear groin
protection
Please note - In order to avoid confusion.
All persons wishing to attend these seminars need to pay in advance. If you
turn up on the day without prior notice you will not be able to train.

Kapap 2
starts in much the same way as Kapap 1 by re-establishing the basic masking

only weapons are your hands and feet. Finally and to see how all of this
works we'll end the session with a few stress games and conditioning

Kapap 3
In Kapap 3 we look at
disorientation tactics and how these tactics and techniques can be deployed
to confuse and disorient an attacker often enabling us not only to make an
escape but to take the attacker into a leverage or down to the ground. The
first technique you will learn is the gyroscope or windmill technique.
Initially you will use this technique in response to a grab so as to
understand the basic principles of balance and movement. From here you'll
use the technique in response to more forceful street style attacks such as
punches and even knife attacks, where we add either distraction techniques
or more orthodox counter attacks so as to further confuse/disorientate the
attacker. In the second part of this seminar we'll look at firearms and as
with all the Kapap seminars our first teachings will instruct you on the
basics of how to use the weapon and in the case of firearms how to retain
the weapon if someone attempts to disarm you. From here we'll flip the coin!
Now your stood at the wrong end of the firearm and your only chance of
survival is to disarm your attacker. Now we'll teach you not only the
advanced techniques of Kapap but we'll get you to consider everything from
posture to weapon identification and weapon mechanics by means of the 6
principles of disarming firearms. Finally and to see how all of this works
we'll end the session with a few stress games using our 6mm CO2 pistols and
conditioning exercises. (Please note: Some of the stress techniques at the
end of this seminar will involve disarming a live 6mm CO2 weapon from a
would-be attacker. For these exercises full facial protection will be
provided however students should also bring with them a
pair of gloves which will offer
protection to the hands against cuts and grazes which may be received while
repeatedly grabbing the weapon.)
Kapap 4
Kapap 4 is concerned with everything street fighting. In this
seminar we put the weapons to one side and concentrate purely on the common
street fighting tactics, principles and techniques of hand to hand combat.
Where needed such techniques as Masking and the Gyroscope will also be
included but precedence will be given to such things as defence against
grabs, punches, kicks and grapplers. These techniques and principles will
not only be taught from the standing position but also while sitting and on
the ground and time allowing against multiple attackers. Initially we'll
start at looking at the basics like single handed blocking and counter
attacking versus two handed blocking, from here we'll look at hands down
defences and even consider what we can do with "no hands" meaning the hands
are tied or restrained. As part of this seminar 'awareness' and decisions
making will also be covered. This translates to mean a persons ability to
maintain the ability to think and react during the 3 stages of a conflict
i.e. pre, during and post and as such students will be expected to carry out
tasks during these phases. Finally and to see how all of this works we'll
end the session with a few stress games and conditioning exercises
Note: Because of the
way we teach Kapap the above 4 seminars can be done in any order so there's
no need to have attended 1 or 2 if your thinking about 3. However please
remember, if your an absolute beginner you need to attend the
Basic KM course first for a grounding and a

General Street Defence & Fighting Techniques
In this seminar we'll deal with some
of the most common problems when we're attacked in the street. Firstly we'll
look at awareness. By improving our awareness we'll be able to make speedy
decisions relating to how best to avoid trouble or how best to prepare for
trouble. After this, weather permitting, we'll put these techniques
into practise. From here we'll move to looking at the most common types of
attacks and how to avoid and counter them. Attacks such as the sucker punch,
being grabbed, being taken to the ground will all be covered. We'll also
look at the problems and the positives of fighting in enclosed or confined
areas. Time allowing we'll also look at at the problems and solutions
relating to multiple attackers.
Defence Against
Common Knife Attacks
This seminar covers attacks with
knives and other sharp objects. The
seminar starts by teaching techniques that will allow a defender to block or
deflect the weapon at close range, to apply counter attacks and then to take
control of the situation. From here,
the seminar goes on to examine the problems faced when dealing with a knife
attacker at medium and long ranges.
Ground Work
This seminar deals with problems
faced when an attacker has taken us to the ground or we have fallen to the
ground. The seminar starts by
covering basic defensive techniques while on the ground.
You will learn how to escape from
holds and attacks when the assailant is physically upon you, stood over you
and coming toward you.
Defence Against
Stick Attacks
Similar to the ’Defence Against Knife Attacks‘, but in this
seminar the weapon is a stick or club-like object. We also teach you how to
use a stick like object as a defensive tool including blocking and striking
techniques.
What would you do if an attacker put
a knife to your throat and told you to do something?
In this seminar we look at the problems associated with weapon
threats. You will learn how to assess the threat, weigh up your options and
perform defensive techniques that will allow you to overcome any would-be
attacker. The seminar starts by
dealing with knife threats and expands to cover small firearms.
How would you feel if a friend, relative or loved one was in danger and all
you could do was stand there and watch? This
seminar looks at the problems of protecting a 3rd party.
You will learn how to physically
move a person away from on-coming trouble and how to position yourself
between the problem and the 3rd party. The
seminar will then expand to concentrate on defending a person who is being
attacked or threatened with violence. Other
topics include defending a 3rd party against weapon threats.
Defending With Common Objects
This seminar will teach students how
to use common objects as defensive tools. In every street attack the victim
will have at hand various common objects that can be used to defeat and
overcome an attacker. These common objects fall in to various categories
such as sharp implements (pens etc), stick like objects (umbrellas),
heavy objects (stones/ashtrays), small objects (keys/coins), shield Like
objects (chairs/bags), whip like objects (belts/chains) and liquids. In this
seminar you will learn how to use these items to defend yourself.
If you wish to use your
own then please select the use 'Own gun' option below This option also
requires you to supply you own gas, BB's and you will have a spare magazine
for the drills (depending on your type of gun we may have spare mags, check
before the course!). Safety goggles/glasses and
holsters are supplied. Places are limited and in-order to keep prices to a
minimum you will be asked to help clean up at the end of the seminar (15
minutes)
Practical Shooting day
This isn't so much a seminar but an attempt to ascertain how
many people within the club are interested in either Practical or Tactical
shooting. The day will encompass setting up an indoor firing range at the
Phoenix and then conducting both Tactical and Practical pistol shooting
skills etc. If your interested then let me know. Expected costs are below! For people with their own C02 Gas Blow Back guns expect to
pay £12.00 for the day. This is based on 8 people attending and will cover
the costs of hiring the hall and other expenses such as targets etc. If you don't own your own GBB pistol but would still like to
attend for the day then the club can loan you a GBB pistol, 2 mags, belt,
holster and safety glasses for £4.00 and a further £8.00 will buy you a bottle of green gas and
1000 bb's. If you interested then
let me know, everyone is welcome regardless of experience or previous
knowledge but bare in mind this is not an instructional
seminar. If it proves popular then expect more meets and possible trips to
Ireland etc for live firing.
What is Practical shooting?
Practical pistol shooting is a
sport where the winner has the best time versus the highest accuracy of the
other competitors. A course can be made up of static, moving and reactive
target types which the competitor is required to engage in a set manner. The sport is still run with the
highest possible standards of safety, even though we now use imitation
firearms, namely gas blowback and Co2 pistols, we still treat this equipment
as though it were the real thing. This allows shooters to be capable of
competing and shooting anywhere in the world as they already possess the
safety abilities required.
Second Level Induction Course
Following requests
received it seems that a number of you guys are looking for a seminar which
leads naturally on from the Basic Self-defence\Induction course and as such
in response to these requests I've now put together this Second Level
Induction Course. The first priority of the course is to act as a refresher
for the induction course. For many people new to self-defence the Basic
Induction Course can be more mentally exhausting than physically and as such
the mind clouds over and we start to loose sight of the basic techniques. To
combat this "clouding" this course will re-enforce and refresh the mind. To
do this firstly we'll re-visit some of the basic blocking and counter
attacking techniques taught in the first Basic Self-defence course. Once
we've re-established these techniques and you'll be surprised at just how
easy the mind is able to recall this "buried" information we'll start to
re-enforce and strengthen the mind by building upwards.
At this time of year
we have Christmas looming down on us but behind all those expectations of
joy and joviality we also have a darker side which we need to be aware of.
With increases in street crime at this time of year it may help us all to
refresh on some of our most needed techniques and with this in mind for the
second part of this seminar we'll be looking at some of the most common
crimes at Christmas time and how to avoid becoming a crime statistic. Well
start by looking at street awareness and how to avoid falling victim. From
here well learn some basic techniques for dealing with pick pockets, armed
street muggers, including "cash till robbery" techniques and of course the
ultimate Christmas threat "aggressive piss-head and mates"
Please Note, The cost for this 4
hour course is £20.00 irregardless of membership. This course is only open
to those people who have previously attended the induction or to those
people who require a pre-Christmas refresher course. Its is not open to
absolute beginners. If your unsure of your suitability please
e-mail me.
Stick On Stick
